The American Legion Auxillary Girls State is a summer leadership and citizenship program for high school juniors which focus on exploring the mechanics of the American government and politics. Delegates come away with a greater appreciation of the American flag and what it stands for and of the sacrifices made by our Veterans.
The girls are usually nominated by their high school during their junior year. Girls interested in applying are encouraged to contact their school counselor at the ALA Post 200 Unit regarding the application process and deadline.
American Legion Auxillary units in all 50 states proudly host ALA Girls State, an amazing week of learning focused on responsible citizenship, leadership, and love for God and Country. They learn about government by actually creating a mythical state through election of public officials on local, county and state levels then carrying out the duties of these rescpective offices.
Inception since 1937 when the Girls State was formed has grown to over 20,000 participants annually. For more information regarding Girls State, please contact Post 200 at 951-678-7777.
